About

Come, good Sirs and Madams, come step through the looking glass with us…

Welcome to the Creative Writing Society, where anything goes – as long as it is on paper. We offer you the chance to perfect your skills as a writer, socialise with fellow enthusiasts and even get published! The Society arranges weekly Lit Circles (every Wednesday from 7-9pm in Trent B38a) where you can try your hand at different writing activities. The theme changes every week, to incluce  fairy tales, dreams, poetry, favourite books, films, romance, and fantasy! If you want to attend a quieter session to work on your own writing, we also host Free Writing Sessions in Hallward Library, they’re usually in Room 104, but this may change, depending on the bookings!

This year we’ve had a fantastic time collaborating with URN for our weekly radio segment, Writer’s Corner! We hope to continue to give our members the opportunity to send or read their pieces on air! Collaborations with other societies in the past have included script-writing (with Film Making Soc) and social Lit Circles (with Quidditch & HP Soc, and Book Club). We hope to collaborate with even more societies this year.

We also offer guest lecture events, which have in the past included Theatre and Writing workshops. Plus we keep you updated about competitions and workshops in Nottingham and around the country. This includes helping members with major writing contests and initiatives like National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) by holding extra writing and brainstorming sessions once a week in Hallward Library, during which time members can work on their own pieces with instant feedback available.

Our pride and joy is Jabberwocky”, the university’s very own creative writing magazine. Whether it is a piece from the Lit Circle or something you wrote in your own time, we are happy to help you get it published and circulated around the campus.

Find us on Twitter, on Facebook, or contact us via email at uoncreativewriting@gmail.com.

Well, what are you waiting for? Pick up that pen and start writing! You never know what you’ll end up with.
